How to download Instagram Stories with Reeloops
Reeloops downloads any public Instagram Story as MP4 video or JPG image in original quality. Stories disappear from Instagram after 24 hours, which is exactly why having a way to save them matters. Open the Story you want to save, tap the share icon (or copy the link from the three-dot menu on the web), paste it into the download bar, and hit Download. The file lands on your device in seconds. No Instagram login required, no app install, no signup. We deliver the file in its original 9:16 vertical format at the resolution the creator uploaded.
Why people save Instagram Stories
Creators save their own Stories to archive them before the 24-hour timer runs out — Instagram's built-in Highlights feature works but compresses videos and doesn't preserve the original file for off-platform use. Brands archive client Story campaigns for case studies and reports. Social media managers download Story performance content as part of regular reporting workflows. Real estate agents save property tour Stories from clients. Event organizers archive Stories from collaborators. Many users save Stories from friends and family that they want to keep beyond the 24-hour window. Reeloops handles every one of these cases without forcing a login or compromising the source quality.
Video Stories vs. photo Stories
Instagram Stories come in two formats: short videos (up to 60 seconds each) and still photos shown for a few seconds. Reeloops detects which format the Story is and delivers the right file type — MP4 for video Stories, JPG for photo Stories. Both formats download in original 9:16 vertical at the resolution the creator uploaded. Stickers, polls, music overlays, and other interactive elements are baked into the visual layer of the Story by Instagram, so they appear in the downloaded file too. There's no way to separate the overlays from the base video — that's how Instagram delivers Stories, not a Reeloops limitation.
Privacy and what we can and can't download
Reeloops only downloads Stories from public Instagram accounts. We don't ask for your Instagram login, don't store credentials, and can't access private profiles or close-friends Stories — by design. That makes the tool safe to use without worrying about your IG password ending up on a third-party server. We also don't notify the Story owner that you downloaded their Story; Instagram doesn't send notifications for downloads any more than it does for screenshots of public posts. We don't log the URLs you submit, don't store the downloaded files after delivery, and don't run third-party trackers across the site.
Story download troubleshooting
If a Story link doesn't work, the most common reason is that the 24-hour window has already expired — once a Story is gone from Instagram, the underlying media is no longer hosted on Instagram's CDN, and no downloader can recover it. The second most common reason is that the account is private. Reeloops only handles public Stories. If the account is public and the Story is still live but the download fails, try copying the link fresh from the share menu — Instagram sometimes appends tracking parameters that confuse parsers. For Stories with music, the music track is baked into the video; we can't separate it. Downloaded files land in your browser's default Downloads folder; on iOS that's the Files app, not the Photos library.
